Cd drive will not try to run any discs

my problem is when i put a disk in my drive, the indicator light blinks for a bit and that's all, no movement, no showup in my computer.

and strangest thing of all is that when i go into device manager, it says the driver and device are working propaerly (even though they are obviously not) also i have scanned for updates to the driver but still no dice.

SOMBODY HELP THIS PROBLEM IS DRIVING ME CRAZY.
