Cd drive will not try to run any discs

my problem is when i put a disk in my drive, the indicator light blinks for a bit and that's all, no movement, no showup in my computer.
and strangest thing of all is that when i go into device manager, it says the driver and device are working propaerly (even though they are obviously not) also i have scanned for updates to the driver but still no dice.
SOMBODY HELP THIS PROBLEM IS DRIVING ME CRAZY.

You might just have "auto run" turned off. can you open the CD drive using explorer (My Computer icon)? This is a link to instructions to turn on auto run
