Hello,
I got an old laptop from a friend, but the screen is dark, i would like to know how to check if the backlight or inverter is still working

I use an external monitor to check if the video card is still working. There is no easy way to test the backlight or inverter short of replacing them or testing for the correct voltage. Both of these would require you to disassemble the screen housing and have access to the repair manual.
