You didnt say what os you are using if it is Windows 7 Try this
Start>Control Panel>Clock, Language and Region>
From here you need ot change the format to English (United Kingdom)
Then from there navigate to the Keyboard section and then click "Select Keyboards" and change that to English (United Kingdom) as well..
May required a restart to finish the process.
In XP and Vista is much the same Control panel>regional settings and change language and keyboard to uk English
