hey there,
the download speed is the speed in which data is being received by your computer and the upload speed is the speed by which data is being taken from your computer and given to another post.
whenever you are downloading something form the internet you will have a download speed which depends on your bandwidth that is your connection whether it is a dsl one, wimax, etc.. the greater your bandwidth the greater will be your download speed.
as for the upload speed whenver you are transferring a data from your pc to another one say on msn you will have an upload speed which also depends on your bandwith.
