Hello, After a firmware update,my Macbook pro does not recognize my WD
mybook essential. The 1 terabyte drive has 125 GB left on it,so to reformat the drive would mean the destruction of my data. Any solutions? Any solutions on affordable data recovery if a fail to remount? Apple says that I can boot from my system disk and update all of my software EXCEPT the WD firmware and the WD mybook essential should mount.

If formatting is the only one option to solve this problem then format the MacBook hard drive. But before, formatting create backup file of your entire data and save it to external hard drive as well as to other laptop hard drive. If your any data has been lost or deleted due to formatting hard drive then use some Mac data recovery program to recover deleted data.
