Need Excel Percentage!! HELP

Hello,
I am having diffficulty writing a formula to calculate a percentage.

I need to calculate 25% of $ 3,100 -

I thought I had it figured out but keep getting it wrong

Cell e5 has the amount= $ 3,100 and cell g5 has the percentage = 25%

The formula I am using =e5/g5

What am I doing wrong?!?!

If is 25% is 0.25 that has been formatted to show as 25% or is it 25 and formatted to show as 25%


I would guess it is 25

3100 * 25 /100 gives you the 25% of 3100

3100 * 0.25 gives you the 25% of 3100

so you need either

=e5 * g5

or

= e5 * g5 /100
