Sims 2 CD 1 Installation Error

When I try and install CD 1 of Sims 2 it tells me it cannot install Sims08.package.
Upon recommendation I tried to copy the file to the Res folder yet that folder won't let me paste anything in to it I think it is compressed though I'm not sure
Any ideas???

Please consider checking whether the specific installation cd is not scratched.
