Hello,

I have an acer aspire 5520-5865, quite a while ago it was sitting on my end table and it got bumped off, leaving a nice crack in the screen. It was still working fine and the crack was only in the corner of the screen so it wasn't too big a deal.
But then it managed to happen again... this time leaving the crack though the whole screen, kinda like the nike logo. But it was still working.
It was working fine for about two weeks after, then one day I turned it on and everything was all squished to half the screen and the other half was just black. so I rebooted it and it just stayed black.
I plugged in an external monitor and it seemed to work fine for a few days then it would just randomly work then not work. I figured maybe it was the cord so i tried a different monitor, and it worked for a few more days.
Then one day the monitor just stayed black, I've tried 3 different monitors and none are showing anything now. Occassionally the laptop screen will work for a bit then just go black.
I'm not sure if maybe there is button(S) that i am supposed to push to make it connect?
I've tried looking up similar things but havent really came across much.
please help,
all ideas are appriciated because I really dont want to get a new computer, or loose everything i have.
thank you

This sounds like you have motherboard damage and the laptop was slowly failing. You might be able to recover your data by using a USB external drive adapter. You remove the hard drive from the failed laptop and connect it to the adapter. You should then be able to recover your date from the drive.

Good Luck
