Samsung sgh e840 sound problems

Hello,

the sound of my 2 year old samsung sgh e840 phone[which is otherwise in a good condition]has suddenly stopped functioning..if i get a call or msg it doesn't ring and if i play a song the phone will show that the song is being played,but actually there is no sound!removing the battery and putting it back didnt work..all audio etc are on full and its not in silent mode
