Iphone 4 update wont work

Hello,
when i try to download iphone 4 update for my iphone 3gs it wont work i download it get to the end of downloading a message comes up saying can't download internet connection timed out when it hasn't it's still working

i have same problem with my iphone 4 says not enough memory or internet connection timed out niether are true now i cant put songs on my iphone and i tunes wont reconize it
