Hello,
Hello,
My brother did something to my computer. All he was supposed to do was install drivers so my DVD-RW would work. I asked him not to do that until I could back up all my files, but he did it anyway.I think he installed a different OS that was not compatible with my computer. I thinkhe then installed another OS. Since he did this I have lost all programs, Mozilla bookmarks, Word documents. I don't even have Word any more. He also changed the computer by adding 3 separate user accounts. Now there are three. One is the account we have always used. Then there are two more. The original acct lists the lost programs in Program Files, but I can't open them. I hate having 3 accounts. I can get to the internet on 2 accounts. Also, any work I do trying to restore everything I can do under 1 acct then I have 2 go back and do the same thing on the other 2 accts. I've done the deep scan using Recuva. Should I restore all the recovered files? I don't understand how to use the the info in the beginners guide. Could someone "Dumb it down" for me? I would appreciate any help. I hope I am posting this in the appropriate place. Thanks, love2cats

Well, I could do this two ways. We could try to muddle through a solution over a period of message tag here, or we could get on a messenger/or phone and I could walk you through it.

I am not a creep, this is just a more...difficult problem than is usually dealt with on here. And that is only because of your level of experience in this subject. An OS is an Operating System. Windows is an Operating System, Mac and Linux are Operating systems and if he installed alternate OS's you would most likely not have windows, and thus not have Word, etc.

Now, as I said, if you have a messenger service, or a phone and aren't shy about having a stranger walk you through this, message me privately on this site and I will give you my contact info.

Otherwise just respond that you want to solve this here and I can assist you to fix this problem as quickly as I can. Be forewarned, I try to make sure people understand WHAT I am walking them through and WHY because just doing something is useless unless they understand it. And understanding prevents things from happening in the future.

Call it preventative care. :)

But for a side note, a driver will harm a computer. There are currently no virus's circulating, (nor have there been period. Those would be aimed and directed specifically at people) that would use drivers to harm a computer so 100% it wasn't the driver that messed it up, but your brother's muddling and lack of understanding of his problem/situation that caused your problem.

Good luck and I hope to hear from you!

I hope I have sent you an email. How do I respond to the forum?
