DVD RW has stopped reading blank/copied discs

Hello,

Toshiba Equim A210 is a few years old now and has played all discs previously. Now it can't read blank discs, says insert disc, or a copied disc. Applies equally to CD-R and DVD-R, but will play original CDs and DVDs. Using "fix it" from microsoft removed upper & lower limits but no change.
Any ideas ??
