I've been running my inspiron 6400 off AC since the original battery died around a year ago.
I had to buy a new AC charger but have had a few problems since starting to use it. It was working okay while connected to the mains but the battery light was solid orange as if I was running it from the battery. Eventually it stopped powering up at all.
I've since bought a replacement battery. It seems as if it's drawing some power off the mains as the new battery isn't running down very quickly but it just isn't charging.
Well remove the battery from it then press on power button and hold it for 1 minute draining the remaining power on system then put new battery and connect charger to it,for new battery longer life have tips from Faq:
