Well you definitely need to install the drover to get sound ,here is the download link of the driver from official Hp website:

there is preinstalled driver files in all systems or os cd's
in the device manager check audio and multimedia controller right click and select update driver
select no
select manual
select the appropriate driver from the list
click install
OR TRY RELTEK GENERIC AUDIO DRIVERS
