Here's a list of beep code interpretation for AMI/Phoenix BIOS, two of the mainstream ones. Perhaps you could provide more details about your dektop config , make and BIOS make and Version? More the details, more "drilled down" and specific the answer will be :D
1 short beep - Normal POST - system is ok
2 short beeps - POST (Power On Self Test) Error - error code is shown on
screen/No RAM/Bad RAM (single stick)
No beep - Power supply or system board problem
Continuous beep - Power supply, system board, or keyboard problem
Repeating short beeps - Power supply or system board problem
1 long, 1 short beep - System board problem
1 long, 2 short beeps - Display adapter problem (MDA, CGA) (or does not exist)
1 long, 3 short beeps - Enhanced Graphics Adapter (EGA) problem
3 long beeps - Keyboard Error.
Hope this is enough for starters.

Hello,
Try this 1.
Remove the RAM from the slot, clean it and place it back properly or try another
slot. Check your RAM also. Even bad RAM will result you in display problem.
Good Luck.
