How to increase free space

Hello,
pls look here, i have my little laptop and it's only new (as in 3months) which now has so many service packs and update files it wont run because the hard drive is to full to opperate. things like microsoft framework 2.0 sevice pack 2 @ 890MB and all the rest add up to 2340MB, so that plus the programs and it's full. how do i get that gig of space back?
