i am running 2 asus laptops from them.do i need to have both the modem&the router plugged in
as i seem to have more wires now than i did before,or can i unplug the broadband modem
thanks in advance

You need all the parts. The broadband modem provides the electronics to connect you to the ISP (and the internet) the wireless router provides the electronics to connect multiple computers to the modem via radio waves and/or cables.
