Hello,

I have the blue screen of death with message "unmounted boot volume" so I booted to the XP setup CD. Everything goes fine but it gets to the screen where I can hit the R key to repair but the screen freezes at the point. I can't press any key at this point to even exit. So I can't get on to the computer. Any ideas? I have a dell with windows xp. I think this is from a faulty hard drive but I would still like to get on my computer one last time. Thanks

Hello,

Try this 1.

1) Place the "Windows XP" CD in the drive and make sure your first boot device

is set to CD\DVD drive to boot from it.

2) When prompted to "Press any key to boot from the CD", press any key.

3) When welcome screen appears, press "R" key to go to recovery console.

4) When it asks "Which Windows installation would you like to log onto", press 1

key and then press "Enter".

5) Enter your administrator password.

6) Now C:\Windows> prompt appears.

7) Now enter this command.

chkdsk c: /f /r ---> Press Enter.

After completion of the process, enter the command exit and then

press "Enter" to restart your computer.

If the problem still exits then follow the instructions from 1 to 6 and enter the

command fixboot and press Enter

Good Luck
