There are people who may be able to recover files after a format, but they are specialists who normally work for businesses and are horrifically expensive. I have nothing to offer you except misery.
The thing to do next time - or have done for you - is to make a partition of about 10Gb for your operating system, which will be C: You then leave the rest for your documents. It's unlikely you will need to format D: - almost all malware goes for C: and you will probably never have to touch your D: drive - I've had mine about 6 years. This won't protect you against a blunder but it may keep your mind at rest.
I go further - a partition for programmes, E:. Even if I reformat C:, I find about half of the progs don't need re-installing - they put nothing in the registry - and some others only need their serial number put in. It saves much work.
