Acer backup dvds

Hello,
I am trying to make acer laptop back up discs, but every time I put in my Memorex DVD+R disc it refuses it and says "unsupported disc form. Please insert a blank DVD disc and press ok. What am I doing wrong? i would appreciate some help with this problem.
