Connected to modem but wont connect on laptop

Help,
I have windows Vista and currently have internet with cable (modem)which is connected with the ethernet cord. Internet was working fine but now not. Tech said connection good on their end so must be something with my gateway laptop. Tried everything and very frustrating!!!!! Someone plz help plz

Hi,

What have you tried till now?please mention . Have you unchecked ''work offline'' in internet explorer ?If not try it.

well at first I called comcast and spoke to their technical support people and we tried numerious things like going into the control panel network and sharing and checking some numbers. The "work offline" is not checked and has never been. I've have checked everything possible tht i can think of and it still wont work. I even tried to connect the internet from my mother computer to my laptop and still nothing. what else is there to do? do you have aol, or yahoo messenger so u can walk me thru the steps easier?
