Hello,

Hello,

The other day, my Hitachi XL1000 external hard drive fell over and now it hangs up my computer and is not recognized properly. When I attempt to view it's contents (movies, TV shows) it says I have to format the drive before I can use it.

I've tried a few programs said to be able to recover the FAT, NTFS data, but nothing is working. At one stage or determining its filing system, it says it is a FAT1 instead of NTFS.
When it is powered up, it makes funny "clicking" repetitious sounds, and sometimes when accessing a certain area, what sounds like a fuse burning, but nothing really is. The drive activity light flashes and/or stays solid.

I just got this at the end of April 2011, so it isn't old by any means.

Can anyone help?! I'd appreciate anything anyone can offer. Thank you.

Hello,

Try this 1

Click on the below link and download the application

http://www.powerdatarecovery.com/download/pdr6free.exe

After launching the application, check the check box "I am a home user, please

launch MiniTool Power Data Recovery Free Edition" and then click on "Launch

Power Data Free Edition" button --> Click on "Damaged Partition Recovery" -->

Select a partition/volume you like to recover from the partition list --> Click on

"Full Scan". It will try to recover the files.

Sometimes after a fall the heads fail to return to their regular position.

If you hear your Hitachi hard drive making some unusual noises then

after backing up your data better go for the replacement instead of waiting for

something to happen in future. You may get a new external drive since you have

a warranty.

Good Luck
