I've read through other questions like this and none of the answers seemed to work for me.

I have a Compaq Windows 7 laptop and a Dynex hdtv.
I have a VGA cable (http://bit.ly/iXuhbs and when I hook it up to the tv on the VGA input, I have picture.
I bought a red/white RCA cable (https://bitly.com/a/warning?hash=kxu8kp&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ezshopfun.com%2Fimages%2F10002274-0m.jpg that I am able to plug into the headphones jack on the computer. However, I don't know where to plug in the other end.

On the back of the tv, where the VGA cable is plugged in, there is a port for a 3.5mm cable.

All the ports for red/white RCA are all under Components and AVI 1 & 2.

Do I need to buy a cable like this in order to get sound?

Thanks in advance,

Each TV is different. I would guess that the mini-DIN plug next to the VGA plug is where it expects the audio for PC input. That double ended mini-DIM cable should work.

In the future You can't use the "bit.ly" site to host pictures on Kioskea. Any such posting gets deleted.

Good Luck
