How can I make my WD My Book Essential 1TB compatable with windows 7? I had been using it on my mac powerbook (pre intel) osx. I have many files on it, so cannot format.

Mac disks are formatted in HFS which Windows does not read. There are a number of add-on programs that can allow a Windows computer to read these disks. This one has a 15 day free trial:
