Icons and browser wont open

Hello,
Some, not all of the program, file icons and internet browser icons on my laptop wont open, when I click on them a screen pops up asking me what program I want to use to open this icon and gives me windows explorer as the only option. Since I cant get onto the web I cant download any programs to fix the problem.
I have scanned my computer using my anti virus program but seems clean. What do I do! Help, please!

why cant you just download exe fix which is of small size from another computer and run it on your pC??
Anyway try this
Open '' My computer ''. On the top
For xp
go to
Tools-Folder options-Click on ''view tab ''
Scroll down and uncheck '' Hide extension for known file types '' option
and click ok
For vista/7
Go to
Organize-folder and search options-click on '' view tab''
Scroll down and uncheck '' Hide extension for known file types '' option
and click ok
Now Rename your browser for example
internet explorer
iexplore.exe to iexplore.com
firefox.exe to firefox.com
Now browse through the web and search for EXE registry fix ,download it and run
