HELP! I can't get anything to work with .exe

Hello,
My family computer has been infected with lovely virus that has totally taken over. It was the XP anti fake. No one activated it, but it still took over. I have run the malwarebytes in safe mode and it cleared all 82 (yes82!) issues, but now when I go into regular mode after the sign in screen, I get the which program do you want to run ___.exe. I an asking this on my laptop
but the family comp is Windows XP running google chrome (well it was, not doing anything now)
