Black Screen after the BIOS/Boot Menu screen

Hello,
I have a black screen with a cursor after the F2 F10 screen boots. I have tried every possible thing. I am not able to get into the safe mode by pressing F8 I have tried unplugging taking the battery out and holding the power button for 60 seconds. I have purchased a recovery disk from gateway ran it 4 time. nothing has worked. I am seriously about to through the laptop out into the middle of the road if I can not get this fixed. does anyone have any other suggestions on what I can do. Oh also ALT+CTRL+Delet does not work either it just reboots the computer and I get the samething the F2 F10 screen then the black screen with cursor. I am able to get into the F2 and F10 if I push those buttons. Can someone please help me with this.
