HP video chat must have head phones

Hello,

My brothers sound on his HP laptop has gone a little funky. It works perfectly for games and music. However, when we go to video chat woth someone, we have to plug in a set of head phones. He says he's uninstalled and reinstalled the drive for the sound, but it still won't work.

Help, please?
