Toshiba black screen

y laptop was running fine last night, i got up this morning put it on and got windows was not shut down successfully, so i clicked start up norma, it says starting windows, then preparing desktop,then a black screen with a box that says windows exploer has stopped working. check online for a solution and close the program or close the program,show problem details. clicked show and it says in page errorr error code: c000009c
faulting media type 00000003 then i clicked check online and close, itnsays checking and goes to a black screen. thats all. is there anything i can do please help
