Laptop broken screen

Hi I have a HP pavillion g series laptop with a broken screen and I am trying to connect it to brand new TV. Have done password then pressed. Fn and f4 which is the TV looking button with no success. Please help

You may have to press a combination of <alt>+F4 to direct the screen signal to the external monitor.
