Might be a driver problem. I dont see that it can be a hardware problem, because it would have restarted in safe-mode aswell.
Scan for viruses in safe mode, or try and update some of your drivers. Type msconfig into your run command, go to Startup and disable all of your Startup items by unchecking the boxes. Restart your computer and try going into normal mode.
Worth a try.
