Hi mackempete,
I would like to help you here. From your post it is not clear as to what type of cable you are using. A VGA cable looks like the picture below:

Kindly check if you have same. If there is a different cable you are using, please reply with the exact name of the cable or please post an image like above. Once the cable is identified I can try to help you with settings. Also, add in your reply the exact System Model Number of your Acer computer and the Model of your LCD TV.
