I researched on the issue and found that there are two factors that affect the length of Windows XP Startup Sound. First is the size of the file. Windows XP allows a very small size of file to be added as a Startup Sound. A 16 kHz 8-bit audio file may sound okay but a 48 kHz 24-bit audio file might not play correctly and entirely. Second, the resources required during initial Startup. As Windows XP needs a little more resources during startup to load several drivers and other startup items, it cannot play the file entirely.
