Photoshop won't open file on my desktop

Hey there! Ms. Frustrated here!! I've been working on a photo/art collage on Photoshop CS4 and been saving like crazy because my laptop has been crashing quite a bit. Now it wont let me reopen the file thats saved on my desktop (I can even see the whole image) because it says "cannot complete your request because the file is empty"! I've tried opening it in Photoshop, and open recent and just preview and I'm still getting the same message!! Is there ANYTHING i can do to retreive this file?!? I would really appreciate anyone's expert advice! Thanks!!

I had a Friend of mine with this problem and it was solved by doing this:

-press ESC after attempting to open a file
-pressing CTRL+SHIFT+S (save-as) supposedly resizes the window to it's default size.

Let me know if that works or not. This is just what I heard.
