Power supply ?

help, I have a hp pavillion slimline s3023w, its a 2007 pc (vista) problem: 1. my pc will turn on/off but when i plugg it in it starts automaticailly problem 2: when pc is turned on , psu light turns off, all fans work fine when pc is turned on, but cpu will not worked...tried holding pwr button down for 30 sec.when unit is unplugged, pulled battery out for 5 mins to reset bios..
please help, can't afford another pc p.s this has happened a few other time, and after repeated times of turning pc on & off it would start up..but this time it won't...
can any one help me..could the problem be in the psu ??

This problem, computer powering on automatically, can happen because of a broken power button or a damaged power supply. Please seek a local technician's help and have these two parts checked. You can test the power supply yourself but this requires you to follow safety instructions such as proper grounding. The other part of the problem (i.e., the power supply light switching off) also can be attributed to a broken power supply.
