Hello, I believe that my PC is virused, although haven't taken it in to be checked. Whenever I start it up, a little window comes on and says something about not being responsive and displays a timer for 60 seconds before it shuts itself down. This hasn't happened in the past, but my oldest daughter was apparently downloading videos from some site and shortly after dating sites started popping up, the computer would freeze up, and then the 60 second timer window. Now, I have tons of pictures and music files that I do not wish to lose... My sister says to do the system recovery on it, however, when I purchased computer, I didn't do the cd back up for other reasons. I know enough to know that if I DID do that, then I'd lose all existing files... Is there a way that I could fix my computer myself, and still be able to save my music/picture files? Or is it a safer bet to take it to a professional? And upon doing so, would I still be able to save my files? I mostly concerned about the pictures, because of course, I didn't back up or save to disc. Please, if someone could give me some advice on this matter, I'd greatly appreciate. Thanks!~

System recovery is usually set to do a backup when ever a big change happens to your computer, so i would look into the system restore option (its in admin tools), it doesn't look so much like a virus(although i woudlnt be suprised to find one) its sounds more like spyware https://www.safer-networking.org/download/ is a free tool that will help, but you might have to do a system restore anyway just to be able to download the thing

If I do go and do a system recovery, will my files be lost forever? This is my greatest concern about doing the system recovery. If I can't find my files after doing this, then this isn't the way I wanna go....

Hello Teedubs,
Your computer has been infected by Spywares/adwares. In most cases, these spywares and adwares come to your pc when you brows PORN SITES, or use TORRENTS , or when you go to an ILLEGEL DOWNLOADS SITE like hacking etc. I`m ot sure ow did you got this. Anyways Spywares and Adwares or kind of viruses that are used to SPAM and steal your computer information .i.e emails, passwords, logins, ip address, port address. etc. When your pc gets infected by these nasties, you start getting unwanted popup ads from software, porn, dating and even from some fake antivirus websites.
Ok now i suggest you to run a (free) Spyware and Adware scan on your pc and remove spyware/adware infection. this can be done by download free SUPER ANTI SPYWARE program from here.
http://www.darfuns.com/download-super-anti-spyware/

And the second problem, your pc SHUTS DOWN itself and shows warning time of 60seconds. This is due to windows services file corruption. I think the spyware has corrupted your windows. Anyways, heres are solution for it.
Go to Control Panel ---> Open ADMINISTRATIVE TOOLS ---> Open SERVICES ---> in services use drop down menu and scroll down untill you see REMOTE REGISTRY, double click on REMOTE REGISTRY --> there you will see a tab RECOVRY ---> click RECOVRY and there you will see RESTART COMPUTER ---> Click at RESTART COMPUTER and there you will see option TAKE NO ACTION, click on TAKE NO ACTION. now click APPLY and OK. now near bye REMOTE REGISTRY you will also find REMOTE PROCEDUR, double click it and select RECOVRY and here you will also see RESART COMPUTER, here too you need to select TAKE NO ACTION and clocl APPLY and OK and now you are DONE. close all programs. Hope your computer wont show 60 seconds time and wont shut down again.
GoodLuck
