To get my laptop to run through my tv,

Hey people

I'm currently trying to get my laptop to run through my tv,I have brought a vga to rca/s vid cable since the tv has both,my prob is this i can get my comp to recognize the tv but still won't show a picture,my laptops running a xp version3,even tried running an external grafics but alas still no luck ,i know my tv can do this since my last laptop was always working on it,so any help is appreciated

The screen resolution needs to be compatible between the laptop and the TV. You probably have a wide screen laptop and an older TV with 4X3 ratio screen. I suggest you check the TV's list of compatible resolutions and then change the laptop to match.
