Dear member. There shouldnt' be as tcpip is tcpip. To be certain, make them both part of the same work-group, or domain, just to be sure.

Just make certain that you assign a ip address, as there wil be no DHCP server to give them one.

Have fun!

Further more.

You'll find browsing files from Windows 7/8 > XP easy.

However, XP > Windows 7/8 you may face higher security.

On the Windows 7/8 computer, go to network and sharing centre and turn off the option to password protect shared files, you'll probably find this is the easiest thing to do. If you don't want to do that, when you try and access the share on the Windows 7/8 computer you'll need to log in. the username wants to be in the format PCNAME\username

What is the purpose of connecting the two computers directly? Is it for file transfer/sharing or are you playing a game on LAN?
