Make certain when you plug it into the wall, the battery lights lights up, showing it as charging. Either your battery is shot out, or your charging cord is not charging the battery.
Also, the setting to turn off the machine may be set to a high seting like 30% or something, so in other words the computer is turning off at 30% power left, as the administration is telling it to. Once you have verified the battery is being charged, then go to the control panel and adjust your power management settings.
