hi guys,
so I have a HP laptop... windows 8.1 and yesterday a red color cross came on my volume icon.

I have tried the following :
1) went to services and tried to see if the audio was on automatic and running... YES it is
2) went into device manager, clicked on sound - and tried updating drivers and ALL upto date
3) tried the ''add legacy hardware'' but it did not work out
4) DOWNLOADED SOFTWARE from the the website it self and still no luck.
5) even tried a restore point to a few days ago and nothing worked
6) even tried the scan for hardware changes and nothing worked.

Please help guys

thanks

Hello,

Bizarre! I'm not familiar with Win 8.1

In other circumstances, reinstalling the driver would have been my first advice.

My second would be to delete the sound card and reboot for Windows to detect as new hardware.

My third, since it's probably a relatively new machine is to contact HP.

Good luck.

Sorry but I can't help you any further.

Updating to Windows 8.1 was an error as some systems do not support Win 8.

Please contact HP

Like I mentioned before it was windows 7... the error happened when it was windows 7... so if you have ideas that would work in for windows 7 let me know... cause it will be the same thing....

thanks
