Pen-drive always says not recognised

My pen-drive does not open but always says not recognised. This started happening a few weeks ago. I have some important files relevant to the school and I don't qwant to lose them. Can you help me please.

Have you tried multiple computers?

If you get the same problem with all computers then my best guess is that the flash drive has failed and there is no way to access the data.

If so what shall I do? I also have another pendrive which does not read although it lights up. Have you any solution to this please?

After plugging in the device. Go to device manager (In run type "devmgmt.msc") In Device manager go to "Universal serial bus controllers" It should list the storage devices that you have connected to your PC. Right click and then click "Uninstall. Remove the USB drive and restart your system.
Try connecting the device again, i think this should solve the problem.
