This is what wiki says about it, but before I paste it I wanted you to know:
There are cool resources called wiki.com and google. They both will cut out the middle man when it comes to hardware definitions and such. But anyway, here is what I cut and pasted from wiki:
Electrically Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory and is a type of non-volatile memory used in computers and other electronic devices to store small amounts of data that must be saved when power is removed, e.g., calibration tables or device configuration.
