Problems connecting pc to tv via hdmi

Respected users.
I am using samsung joy plus 40 inch led tv. I tried to connect my compaq to it via hdmi. I followed the setting of display but my tv was not detected. Later when i connected the hdmi....... The screen turned black..... Then it was the only the wallpaper and the desktop icons got missing..... When i removed the hdmi then the laptop was all ri8....plz anyone help me as i am not very good with computers and all.

when tv not detected try changing the resolution on tv to 576p then reconnect laptop you will need to change the graphic setting for the video card installed like second monitor Also the graphic card must support audio as well to hear sound through the hdmi cable
