Hello,
Yes I'm trying to start a LAN network with 16 pcs and 4 laptops. I'm trying to connect them to two different buildings 100 yards apart.

hi

i have some few thing i u can start with.
are the laptops going to one building?if yes then get a wireless router and install it in one sit configure the latops it to acess the ip from the other building thru the wireless router.

If no then get a switch in place of the router

The PC's are going to be in different buildings. I'm going to have 12 pcs and 2 laptops in one building and 100 yards away I'm going to have the 4 pcs and 2 laptops. How do I start this method off. I'm total lost on this. Thanks for any help or input.

ok do you have an internet connection.
then use the vpn

Yes...But I don't know high to make it in to a Star topology.
