I have tried literally EVERYTHING!

okay so... my iPod 5th gen was perfectly fine until iOS8 came out then it started resetting and went into recovery mode. i was forced to download every thing again and lost 99% of my pictures. So i downloaded 8.1.2 and now my ipod wont even turn on. i have tried holding the home and lock button for 10 seconds but it wont do anything but the black screen with the apple logo. i have tried charging it(it was at 98% when it shut off) and still nothing but the boot screen... I NEED HELP!~ Please and thank you, Bri.

It looks like you need to lean on APPLE HERE. It is their update! No amount of trouble shooting will fix a bad O/S shipment. Sorry!
