Delivery requested for text message

I have sent a text message with a request for notification of delivery. The message has not been received as the phone is turned off. Will notification be sent when phone is turned on? Is there a time period that is used, for example, if the phone is turned off for 24 hours, there will be no notification sent to me that it was received?

Yes, the request will still be active until it is received.

And if I don't receive the delivery request do I assume the message was not received?

It all depends. If the recipient has a function where he or she has the choice to block the receipt.

So if the little symbol pops up with a green check mark that means the person I have text has opened and literally looked at my text? Or the text has simply made it to their phone but not been seen yet?
