Advice please atachments that I can not always open

I have an old computer and I find that I am being sent documents as atachments that I can not always open. they download ok but when I come to open them I just get a page of symbols rather than text I can read.
I confess I am no technical wizzard but its driving me made any suggestions for a ludite?

It sounds as though the files are being opend by the wrong default software. What typ eof files are they, and do you have the software?

Hello,
I have a problem with the programme Windmend Folder Hidden. It can't show me a folder hidden, so i can't unhide this. I have to try to send an e-mail to the support of Windmend but they don't responds me. Do you have some advice for me? I'm going crazy xd sorry for my bad english but i'ma italian.
