If you can assign a drive letter and get the drive to work, I advice you to backup all your data and do write zeros to the drive. Uninstall device from Device Manager, restart PC and plug the device back in. If this does not result helpful, you should have a look at this Microsoft article, explaining how to assign letter manually: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-hardware/repeated-loss-of-drive-letter-assignment-upon/6dd6edb7-250e-46c2-9f31-05d4ed5db4a5
