DVD Rom doesn't read DVDs

Hei guys,my computer has a Asus dvd rom but it doesn't read DVDs.Only CDs.When i insert a dvd,I click on dvd drive but it tells "Insert disk".Please give me an answer to solve this.

Does this happen to all dvd's? Let us know if a standard dvd can read them also.

Yes.All dvds.I inserted dvds that include movies,drivers,pictures.But it doesn't work.

Sometimes hardware fails. To swap out a laptop DVD is not that difficult. One or two screws and viola!
