Trying to hook at Toshiaba computer up to my tv

Hello,
I am trying to hook at Toshiaba computer up to my tv
, i have hook the computer up to tv and the hmdi indicator came up on tv but no pickture came up, it is like it recognizes the computer but wil not display page, someone said it was a function key but we dont know which one

Look for the key that has a "screen icon" on it.

that did not work, but it may be because i have ubtunu operating systems, does that have anything to do with it?
